American Legion Auxiliary Unit 593
Minutes for September 2, 2010
Regular Meeting
The meeting of Prunedale Unit 593 was called to order by President Marilyn Yaqub at 7:10 pm on September 2, 2010 in the Lower Hall. Opening rituals were performed. All officers were present. We had a quorum. The minutes from the August 2010 meeting were read and placed on filed. The Treasurer’s report was read and placed on file.
Our meeting started off with a presentation by our North Monterey County Girl Stater, Faith DeAmarelo.
Reports:
1st Vice: Karen reported that we had two new members to vote on: Rebel Vonyerzy and Lori Crosby. A motion was made by Karen to accept both members. Seconded by Koni. Motion Carried. There was another motion to accept Sarah Booze as a new member. Seconded by Diana. Motion Carried. Koni reported that we would be having a Membership Dance and Drive on August 12th
2nd Vice: Stefanie reported that we needed to order poppies by October 1st. It was decided that Stefanie would order the normal 1,000 poppies. There was a motion by Noni to order $10 is poppy seals. Motion was seconded and carried.
Girls State: Noni received the application for girls state. She will be filling it out and turning it in.
Legislative: Renee reported that there is a legislative alert for encouraging members to tell senators to vote for S1450. It will allow Gold Star parents to receive benefits for losing one child rather than having lost all children.
New/Unfinished Business:
Koni reported that we were given 3 passes for the Santa Cruz County Fair. We decided to raffle them off at our next meal.
Koni also noted that lavender had been purchased to plant near the gazebo.
Linda Mcintyre is progressing well. She is currently waiting for a prosthesis.
Koni recommended that Joyce and Larry receive a certificate of appreciation for their donations for the Kid’s Christmas party.
Noni found patriotic vases at Grocery Outlet and asked that others keep an eye out for more.
Diana thanked Bobbi for all she does for our post. She is always willing to help, no matter what organization is working.
Stefanie reported that the DJ for the Laua was shorted $150 by the Legion. Koni said she would talk to the legionnaires to get him paid in full.
September 12th is KIA Recognition day. There will be a ceremony at J&S Supply that will start at noon.
Liz reported that we received a letter from Operation Yellow Ribbon thanking us for our donation and letting us know that there will be another collection in November.
There was a motion by Liz to donate $100 to the district for Ride to Recovery. Seconded by Koni. Motion was carried.
Liz mentioned that she started working on the binders, but only had one ready so far. She plans on having them all ready prior to the next meeting.
October 7th will be the district official visit.
Liz asked to be reimbursed for the purchase of needed items from Emblem sales and for the stamps for Karen. There was a motion by Renee to reimburse Liz. Seconded by Noni. Motion Carried.
Jennie created an Auxiliary Challenge coin to put on the fallen soldier monument since all other legion organizations have one. It would cost $65 to order 100 of them from emblem sales. We tabled the idea of ordering them till next month.
Robert the first vice for the legion brought down the tickets for the Santa Cruz County fair that were donated to them so that we could combine them all and do what we wanted with them.
Dinner will be on September 24th and will be Spaghetti.
Breakfast will be September 26th and is going to be omelets.
The next meeting will be held in the Lower Hall on Thursday, October 7th at 7:00 p.m. Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
