Minutes for October 1, 2009
Regular Meeting
The meeting of Prunedale Unit 593 was called to order by President Koni Dearman at 7:05 pm on October 1, 2009 in the Lower Hall. Opening rituals were performed. All officers were present except 2nd Vice, and Marshall. Stefanie Baughman sat in as 2nd Vice. We had a quorum. The minutes from the September 2009 meeting were read, corrected, and placed on filed. The financial report was placed on file.
Reports:
President- Koni gave thanks to those who helped making brownies and sandwiches for the fishing derby and for those who worked kitchen duty last month, since she wasn’t present. Koni and Diana attended the District meeting and leadership training on September 20th and said it was really long and interesting. One very important thing they was us to make sure of is that we make our deadlines. Koni has also e-mail Michelle Soares, the district president, to have our official visit set up of November 5th. November 14th Early Bird Dinner. The Post has asked that we decorate. We decided on fall colors and birds. Koni also brought up dinner options for November and December. As of right now, we will not be having meals in either month, but Koni is going to see if we can switch our days around so we can possible do it a week earlier. SAL has bought a new refrigerator for us to share as an anniversary gift.
1st Vice: Diana reported that we currently have 39 into department. Which is 36% and we will have 8 more by the end of the week, which includes 1 junior. On October 17th, the post will be having a Car and Truck show and we will have a membership booth. On October 24th, the post is holding a membership dance. All current members will be able to get free hamburgers and fries. A table will also be set up for more people to renew the membership.
Secretary- Liz reported that on October 5th the District will be holding the R2R run. From what I heard, there will be a meal at Clint Eastwood’s restaurant in Carmel, but I couldn’t find out anything else. On October 18th Post 694 in Marina will be having and Oktoberfest. I will be passing around four Thank You cards. Three will be for those who donated vegetables and fruit for our anniversary party. The fourth will be for the SAL for their donation of the refrigerator.
Chaplain- We currently have three people in the hospital. Teri Bradford is currently at Watsonville Hospital, and not doing so well. Koni has sent flowers, that should arrive tomorrow, from the unit. Liz Woodard is also at Watsonville Hospital. She had surgery on Monday and has not come out of the anesthesia. Linda McIntire lost her leg in a motorcycle accident, coming back from Reno. She is doing well.
New/Unfinished Business:
Koni mention that Ellen offered to bring her mini horse, goat, and dog, for the Halloween party. We should be able to get pictures of the kids on or near the horse or other animals. Stefanie will bring her camera and printer, so that we can take pictures and have them available at the party. Koni would also like to purchase pocket flags to send to soldiers. Judy had previously mentioned to Koni about sending care packages, but hasn’t mentioned it again. Stefanie would like to partake in the Poppy Poster Contest this year. Breanna’s teacher is very artsy and Stefanie is pretty sure that she can get her class to create posters. Stefanie is also going to check on getting new Need a Lift Books for the high schools. Jenny brought up the PO Box, and whether we were planning on keeping it. It was decided that we would keep the PO Box. Jenny made a motion to order Labels for our unit, with the new PO Box address. It was seconded by Diana. Motion Carried. On October 15th we will be decorating the hall for Halloween. On October 23rd we will be in the kitchen. Stefanie will be making Schnitzel and Schpatzel. October 24th is our Kid’s Party October 25th we will be in the kitchen for breakfast. Next meeting will be in the Lower Hall on Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m. Meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
