American Legion Auxiliary Unit 593
Minutes for February 4, 2010
Regular Meeting
The meeting of Prunedale Unit 593 was called to order by President Koni Dearman at 7:05 pm on February 4, 2010 in the Lower Hall. Opening rituals were performed. All officers were present except 1st Vice, Historian, and Marshal. Renee Yaqub sat in as 1st Vice. We had a quorum. The minutes from the December 2009 meeting were read and placed on filed.
Reports:
President- Koni reported that our tamale fundraiser was a huge success and wants to do it again. After Christmas, Koni delivered a barrel of food to the food bank and they were very thankful. We discussed putting the barrel out again mid-year since the food bank is always in need of food.
1st Vice: We had 4 new members: Roxanne Wade, Penny Lopez, Carolyn Barrera, and Jackie Silver and 2 transfers: Vera Wesley and Gene Martin to vote on. Liz made a motion to accept all members. Renee seconded.
Americanism- Koni and Jennie went to a Girls Scout meeting and did an Americanism Presentation, which included teaching the girls how to properly fold a flag. They practiced on the Pocket Flags. We are going to get together on February 27th at 1pm to put together the rest of the flags. Koni is going to invite the Girls Scout troop.
Chaplain- Koni mentioned that this weekend is the Four Chaplains service at the Fort Ord Chapel at 11am.
Children and Youth- Liz reported that the Kid’s Christmas party was a success, but that she went over what she was given by 750.31 and asked for reimbursement. Koni mentioned how there were two kids that showed up that don’t normally get to celebrate Christmas and they were very excited to be a part of our event.
Junior Activities- We still haven’t paid for the Junior Conference tickets, which is April 10-11. There was a motion by Karen to buy the tickets and it was seconded by Noni. Motion Carried
Poppies- Marilyn reported that we are one of the few units that have already orded poppies. This year there are three goals for the poppy program: 1. Get more veterans to make poppies. 2. Get more participation in poppy posters and miss poppy contest. 3. Publicize the poppy program
New/Unfinished Business:
Liz reported that the Charm Bracelets are in. We are going to be selling them for $5 each.
Dinner is going to be burgers, fries, and onion rings.
Breakfast is going to be omelets.
The next meeting will be held in the Lower Hall on Thursday, March 4th at 7:00 p.m. Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
