President- Koni discussed our meals for the previous month. Breakfast was awesome, we ran out of food really early. Dinner wasn’t so hot even though everyone that had it liked it.
1st Vice- Noni mentioned that we are having a membership drive on Saturday night. Auxiliary is having a 50/50 raffle. There will be free burgers and fries. We will be providing the decorations for tables. Dinana reported that we currently have 105 into department. We need 3 more by May 15th and has one to transfer.
2nd Vice- Marilyn discussed putting together rice bags to take to Livermore. She wants to get together to put them together and would like everyone to bring 5 pound bags of long grain rice. Koni discussed getting a news release for Poppy Week and e-mailing Lou Calcagno to make it recognized.
Children and Youth- The kids party was a success. We are going to start putting up posters by Supermax and Safeway to draw in more people. Stefanie is going to put out a sheet at the kid’s parties to have the parents fill out to get their addresses and to send them thank you notes and membership applications.
Girls State- The girls state luncheon is May 2nd at Post 31. The district Chairman would like the names of the girls and their schools so she can put together a program for the luncheon. The girls should also be there around 12:30 and alternates should attend. It is going to cost $5 per person. Liz made a motion to pay for the girls, their parents, and the chairman for the luncheon. Motion was seconded and carried.
New/Unfinished Business:
Noni Mentioned that the riders will be heading to Livermore on May 1st and that anyone that wants to participate can. They will be leaving the post by 8am.
Liz mentioned that Home Depot and Lowes now have discounts for veterans and service members year round rather than on specific holidays.
Noni recommended that we set a limit for the kid’s parties. Koni said that we should set a limit and then ask the Legion and SAL to match that. Noni made a motion to set a limit of $350 and then ask the post to match that for the kid’s parties except for the Christmas Party. Marilyn seconded and Motion was carried.
Liz mentioned that we need to start having fundraisers. One good one would be a car wash, since they aren’t allowed to have them at Valero anymore.
Noni wants to check whether Dessie is a VIM or not. If she is not we should look into paying her up.
The Legion Riders are planning on moving their storage up the hill. We need to talk to the SAL about sharing their storage shed.
Dinner this month will be schnitzel and breakfast will be omelets.
The Fishing derby is May 13th.
The next meeting will be held in the lower hall on Thursday, May 6th at 7:00 pm. Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.
